Gabby’s Dollhouse series, which has been ruling Netflix since 2021, will now rule the theaters as well in the form of a film.
Animation company DreamWorks Animation and Universal made an announcement of “Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie” on Thursday, Apr 25, 2024.
Both companies posted photos of the film on social media, and they wrote a caption, “Cat-tastic news! 🎉😸 Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie – coming to theaters September 26, 2025! #GabbysDollhouse”
After hearing this news, fans expressed happiness in the comment section. One said, “My little brothers don’t have insta omg I’m excited for them 😂”
Another stated, “Theaters? I kinda expected it to be on streaming like netflix or peacock”
Fan asked, “Will this movie be an animation/live-action hybrid like the show”
“I’m so excited! I was almost excepting it to be on Netflix, but this is even better!” another fan stated.
The film will be helmed by Ryan Crego, who also made Arlo the Alligator Boy (2021), Puss in Boots (2011) and Kung Fu Panda 2 (2011).
The duo of Traci Paige Johnson and Jennifer Twomey will write the screenplay and will also serve as the executive producer.
As per The Number, the official synopsis says, “Gabby heads out on a road trip with her Grandma Gigi to the urban wonderland of Cat Francisco.”
“But when Gabby’s dollhouse, her most prized possession, ends up in the hands of an eccentric cat lady named Vera, Gabby sets off on an adventure through the real world to get the Gabby Cats back together and save the dollhouse before it’s too late.”
Actress Laila Lockhart Kraner will be seen reprising the role from the series in the feature film, which follows “Gabby as she goes on a road trip with her Grandma Gigi to the urban wonderland of Cat Francisco.”
“But when Gabby’s dollhouse, her most prized possession, ends up in the hands of an eccentric cat lady named Vera, Gabby sets off on an adventure through the real world to get the Gabby Cats back together and save the dollhouse before it’s too late, according to the movie’s logline.”
Steven Schweickart is producing the film for DreamWorks Animation.
Netflix’s Gabby’s Dollhouse was also created by the duo of Traci Paige Johnson and Jennifer Twomey, who are writing the screenplay and serving as the film’s executive producer.
The voice cast includes Tucker Chandler, Logan Bailey, Juliet Donenfeld, Eduardo Franco, Sainty Nelsen, Maggie Lowe, Tara Strong, Donovan Patton, Carla Tassara, and Secunda Wood.
It is possible that along with Laila Lockhart Kerner, the rest of the series cast will also play the same role in her film.
According to Nielsen, the Netflix series Gabby’s Dollhouse was ranked as the sixth-most-viewed series in 2023. It is in the top 10 most-watched TV shows on Netflix in 57 countries.
