After years, the ‘Clue’ franchise is moving forward and coming back to the screen as the remake of Clue has shaken hands.
Entertainment company Hasbro Entertainment shared the news of the deal with Sony‘s TriStar Pictures and Sony Pictures Television for “Clue” the film and TV rights to the beloved board game, reports Variety.
Hasbro Heads of Film and TV Zev Foreman and Gabriel Marano stated, “Sony is the perfect partner to adapt a property as culturally impactful and mystery-defining as ‘Clue,’”.
“Nicole Brown, Katherine Pope, and their teams are tremendous creative collaborators and ideal partners to help us figure out after 75 years if it was Colonel Mustard in the conservatory with the candlestick.”
The popular board game “Clue” has been adapted into different forms of media several times. The most well-known adaptation is a comedy movie released in 1985 featuring Tim Curry, Madeline Khan, and Christopher Lloyd.
Other attempts to adapt the game include a movie version that was planned with Ryan Reynolds as the lead, and a potential animated “Clue” series. Over the years, “Clue” game shows have been aired, and a “Clue” miniseries was broadcasted in 2011 on a cable network that no longer exists.
Hasbro, the owners of “Clue,” are currently working on various projects featuring popular franchises such as “Transformers,” “GI Joe,” “Dungeons & Dragons,” and “Magic: The Gathering.”
